The Yankees Find A Way To Keep Me Emotional

I am a sports lover and unfortunately I love the teams in the markets that people either love with a passion or hate with a vengeance. Those that know me know that I am a Yankee through and through and the New York Yankees are my cup of tea.

Farewell Great Mariano Rivera

I thought today's post should go out to the best closer to ever play the game. Goodbye Mariano Rivera. You have been a paramount figure in the league. Never has there been a player as dominant as you. Never will there be another one pitch wonder like you. You know you

Derek Jeter Gets His Groove Back

Don’t look now but Derek Jeter has found his swing again. Early in the season “The Captain” was struggling with his stroke. The past few games, Jeter has opened up his mind and just let it flow. It appears that he finally stopped listening to all of the critics who were saying that “he’s too old, he’s lost a step, he doesn’t have power anymore, and his bat is too slow.”

Jeter quit thinking about it and just started trying to hit the ball again. That philosophy is starting to pay off for the New York Yankees and their much-scrutinized leadoff hitter.

Jeter homered twice after going 62 games without a long ball and finished with four hits to raise his batting average 20 points as the Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 12-5 on Sunday, winning two of three in their only regular-season series in the Lone Star State this season.

Of course, the questions never stop. Now the self-loathing Yankees fans will demand Jeter avoid the weak groundouts and lazy fly balls that filled April. Funny thing is, if he were putting up these same numbers and he wasn’t Derek Jeter, there would be no questions. His numbers are adequate for his position. He just set the bar very high. Therefore he is a victim of his own success.

Why The New York Fans Should Be Begging For Cliff Lee

Simply put, Clifford Lee is one of the most dangerous post season pitchers in the American League. He owns the AL. He is the one pitcher that the Yankees don't want to face so what better weapon to put on your team than the Yankee Killer.

Earlier this year my blog brother wrote a piece on Mr. Cliff Lee telling his Rangers fans to enjoy him while you can. What Cliff Lee has done in the playoffs the past few seasons is nothing short of spectacular. He is looking a lot like El Duque (Orlando Hernandez) in his early years as the Yankees were making a run of dominance in the mid 90’s. The man has nerves of steel and he is going to beat you with his stuff. He is not going to try to overpower you unless he feels like he can. He is going to throw sliders, cut fastballs, and 12 – 6 curveballs past you and locate them in places that if you do hit them, it’s nothing more than a routine ground ball.

Cliff Lee: All I Do Is Win, Now Show Me The Money

The bubbly was still flowing in the Rangers locker room (With the exception of Josh Hamilton who received a Ginger Ale Bath due to his bouts with Alcoholism) Tuesday night when the speculation started on how much Texas ace Cliff Lee stands to make in the free agent market this offseason.

Lee pitched another postseason gem in the Rangers series-clinching win in Game 5 of the ALDS, increasing his already sky high value on the open market.

ESPN's Buster Olney has already opened the bidding at "5 years, $115 million." Of course, Olney predicts Lee will go the Yankees, the team that tried in vain to acquire him this season and which Lee faces in the ALCS.

As soon as the Texas Rangers acquired Cliff Lee before the trade deadline, I was groaning because I knew it meant the Rangers would have a showdown against the Yankees in the ALCS. The Yankees had all but locked up the lefty when out of the blue, the Rangers showed up and now I know they are glad they did. The southpaw has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since winning the Cy Young Award in 2008 with the Indians, and he’s become one of the postseason starting pitchers we’ve seen.

Lee beat the Rays for the second time in the series, allowing just six hits and one run while striking out 11 in a complete game win. For the ALDS, he pitched 16 innings allowing just 11 hits, two runs, no walks and posting 21 strikeouts. The big stat that was being trumpeted for the series was that only seven times in postseason history has a pitcher gone 7 innings with double-digit strikeouts and no walks, and four of those games have now been accomplished by Cliff.

Earlier this year my blog brother wrote a piece on Mr. Cliff Lee telling his Rangers fans to enjoy him while you can. What Cliff Lee is doing in the playoffs the past few seasons is nothing short of spectacular.
