OK NFL: Stop Fighting The Future The Athletic Quarterback Is Here To Stay

The Mystique of Notre Dame Is Gone: They Aren't What They Think They Are

I don’t know about you but I am sick of hearing about how great Notre Dame is. Everyone should be talking about how great Notre Dame was. If you think about it, they haven’t been worth a damn since Lou Holtz left town. Honestly who is the last great Notre Dame Player to do anything in the NFL?

They don’t win Heisman Trophy’s anymore, they don’t win National Championships anymore, and they don’t win many games anymore. So what is with all this hype? Every season they come into college football with one of the best 5 recruiting classes in the country and every year they stink up the joint. So who do you blame? So far they have been blaming coaches as they have had more head coaches than just about anyone in the country since 1990. Blaming coaches didn’t work so they have now started blaming players. Coaches yelling and cussing out players at the most prestigious Catholic institution in the country. Hey guess what Notre Dame fans, The Rocket, The Four Horsement, and Joe Montana aren't walking through that door any time soon.

The NFL And The Athletic Quarterback: Why Are They Fighting The Future

Everyone keeps talking about how players in college aren’t suited for the NFL game. Players get criticized for not taking snaps under center in college. Quarterbacks run too much in college. Oh he’s a run first and pass second quarterback. The problem is that the college game has evolved into a mobile quarterback’s dream.

Let’s just call it the Michael Vick effect. You can even credit it to Charlie Ward. Before those guys quarterbacks who could run, really couldn’t throw the ball too. They were one dimensional and were destined to play another position on the next level. The quarterback position was reserved for the smart guy on the team who had a big arm and was not fast enough to be the primary ball carrier.

Now college football is all about the triple threat. Very few teams have traditional quarterbacks. The NFL still insists on staying very vanilla and traditional. Teams are reluctant to invest in a quarterback who isn’t a Joe Montana or Brett Favre prototype. It’s too bad for the game that they won’t evolve, because eventually the well is going to run dry. You will have a league full of guys like Jeff George who will be playing far past their prime if the NFL doesn’t begin to adapt.

The 10 Best Quarterbacks In NFL History

Today at Bull City we attempt to put together the most controversial of lists to possibly put together in sports and entertainment today. Today we will list the top 10 quarterbacks of all time. I initially wanted to post on my generation but then I thought about it and everyone on my list I saw play except three players so we decided that we would step all the way out on that ledge to put the list together.

All of this talk about Michael Vick the past few days had me thinking how he stacked up with all of the great ones that the league has produced. Honestly what I decided was that we haven’t seen anything like Mike Vick before. That being said, his body of work is not complete and he didn’t do anything to help his cause his first few years in the NFL so he will not appear on this list.

As I looked further into the books and the NFL films archives, I felt like I put together a pretty good list of players. There are some that may feel like they have been slighted and others who may feel like their favorite player belongs but just winning Super Bowls was not the only criteria I used.

Winning the big game is a key component though and some players have the ability to dial up their best when they are under the gun. Precision passing and accuracy also are major determinants as well.
