2012 Breaking Down The Divisions: AFC SOUTH

A conference once noted for it's gun slingers has now moved to a league of premier runners. Three of the best runners in the league reside in this conference and make no mistake about it, they are all game changers

Life In The Adamantium Bleachers: A Fans Look At The Hot Players In The NFL

Today we will take our fandom evaluation around the league with a look at 10 players or situations that impressed or surprised us on the past couple of weeks. Since we're all about the positives here at Bull City, let's start with the five players who put on particularly impressive showings this past Sunday and Monday.

Who’s Hot

1. Steven Jackson might become the poster boy for this section. The man just goes hard day in and day out. Sunday he seemed to be playing a little bit harder and acted as if he had something to prove. Maybe he didn’t like where I ranked him in the 5 best running backs in the league last week and he decided that he was going to prove me wrong. Seriously outside of Matt Forte is there a more complete runner in the league?

What's Wrong With Chris Johnson

Just two years ago, Chris Johnson was arguably the best back in football. He has held out of training camps and petitioned to be one of the highest paid players in the NFL. Well this year Chris Johnson got his wish. He was rewarded with a lucrative contract for his position with a lot of guaranteed money. However Johnson has not shown up to play. Well in body, but not spiritually.

Johnson looks so uninspired playing football this year. Despite his lack of productivity, the Titans are winning games. But things would be so much easier if he were his usual explosive step. I think I summed it up best when I wrote this piece earlier in the year. From what I have seen in my lifetime as a player, coach, and fan, guys who get paid in the off-season or during hold outs usually never perform well into that contract. The guys who get paid mid season while they are performing well; usually continue to perform well because they are prepared for the season.

Ten Reasons The Titans Shouldn't Pay Chris Johnson

Everyone out there keeps wondering what the Tennessee Titans are going to pay Chris Johnson. The man has made his mark in his first few years in the league and he understands that the next five years will probably be his most productive. The problem for Johnson is that he is locked in a deal that extends for two more years.

Make no mistake about it, Johnson is a game changer, but to demand that type of money is absurd. There is very little people who will argue that Adrian Peterson is the best back in the league. The Titans are willing to pay Johnson more than that. Johnson wants to be paid like a quarterback. First of all no one commands that type of money, not even Larry Fitzgerald who just robbed the Cardinals. You can take it to the bank that he will never see any more than the guaranteed money on that deal. The rest is fluff.

Johnson is persistent and willing to sit out the entire season. The bad thing about that is that under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Titans can extend the current contract one more year if he decides to sit out under contract. So that only prolongs the problem. At that rate, Johnson who is about to turn 26 will be 28 years old when his contract expires. Tennessee can play hard ball like the Bengal's and keep him under contract even if he decides he doesn't want to play.

The Running Back Conundrum: Who Do You Take And Why

When we discuss the running back position, two names come to mind. Immediately everyone jumps on the Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson bandwagon. It makes perfect sense because both of these guys are the quintessential runners in the game. One is pure speed and the other is a combination of speed and power. So if you had to choose any runner in the game, who do you choose as your franchise running back in 2011?

I am going to argue that I wouldn’t take either of these two. If I had to choose who my runner would be for next season, I take Arian Foster. He is the perfect runner in a league today. He can run, catch, and block. He’s big enough for the goal line and fast enough to play on third down.

If it turns out that someone has already taken Foster, then I am in a conundrum. Johnson and Peterson look very inviting at this point. I have to weigh my options though because both of these guys need volume carries to be effective. Yeah both guys average a lot of yards per carry but it’s because they bore you with the 3 yard runs until finally that homerun 70 yard touchdown occurs on carry 18 or 20.
