When Was The Last Time You Saw The Lions And Bills In First Place

For the past 10 years there haven’t been anything good to cheer about in Buffalo or Detroit. Since the great days of Barry Sanders and Thurmond Thomas, these two teams have been obscure at best. Well all of that has changed in 2011. These two teams have finally found themselves in the mix early in the season and neither looks as if they are going to fade anytime soon.

Both are headed by coaches that I personally know well. The Lions are headed by Jim Schwartz who is a feisty energetic coach, who relates well with the players. Schwartz spent some time coaching at my alma mater North Carolina Central University as a defensive backs coach in 1991 and 1992. He was always fun to be around because of his love for the game and his passion about his alma mater Georgetown University.

There Hasn't Been A Player Like Ray Lewis In A Long Time

If you are a real football fan, you appreciate greatness. Greatness doesn’t just come around all the time. Sometimes we forsake greatness until it has gotten old and slow then we realize how great a player was.

In my generation greatness has been amongst us in several instances. I was able to watch the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game as Jerry Rice rewrote the record books. I was also able to catch the end of the career of Walter Earl Payton as he excelled into the realm of great backs in the league. I witnessed the decade of Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders that will not be duplicated by any two backs of different styles for that period of time. I even witnessed the greatness that is Lawrence Taylor, who in my estimation is the greatest outside linebacker to ever play the game.

Sometimes as fans we take greatness for granted. Enter Ray Lewis. Following the career of Ray Lewis has been remarkable for me. When he was at the University of Miami, #theU, he was a wrecking machine. However no one knew he would be that great on the next level. When he was drafted by the Ravens, I happened to be in Baltimore doing an internship and when I saw him on the practice field, I was like he is going to get killed at that size on this level.

The 10 Best College Running Backs in History

Anytime you would like to start a good argument among sports fans, just offer up your list of the Best 10 of anything of all time. I promise at least one person will not agree with your list, and try to top it with theirs. Today I am going to list the best 10 college running backs of all time.

I am a stats guy so I look at yards and touchdowns. But I also look at impact on the game. So here is my own list of college football's best running backs of all time. You may not agree with my list, but just remember I am right and you are wrong!

1- Tony Dorsett was a Heisman winner in 1976 at Pitt. He also was the first college running back to rush for over 1,000 yards in all 4 seasons he played. He had 1,133 rushing attempts for 6,082 yards and 58 touchdowns. Anthony Drew Dorsett was astonishing for a smaller running back at 5-11 and 185 pounds. But he was a speed demon, seldom if ever being run down from behind. After helping Pitt, win a national championship he went on to become a pretty good pro back for the Dallas Cowboys. He is in both the college and pro football hall of fames.

2- Ron Dayne was just a dominating power back for Wisconsin for 4 seasons. When he graduated, Ron "The Great Dayne" owned the NCAA career rushing mark. Ron Dayne is in my opinion the second best college running back ever. He rushed for 6,443 yards and 63 touchdowns. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1999 and is one of 4 players to win the MVP of the Rose Bowl, twice.
