2012 Fantasy Football Guide: Quarterbacks

Every year I go out and tell all my secrets about fantasy football before the season begins and still I find a way to finish in the top two in most of my leagues. Last year was different as my secrets were revealed and many of my counterparts stood up and accepted the challenge.

First of all there is no secret to the addage that running backs will win you a title and if you can find a sleeper quarterback in the late rounds, then you will win and win going away.

This year there aren't many quarterbacks worthy of early attention but for the sake of all the players out there, I will list when and where you should consider taking the quarterback you covet in this years fantasy draft.

Round 1

Aaron Rodgers - leads the league in fantasy stats since becoming a starter... he is a 15 - 20 point guarantee since he gets rushing yards as well

Tom Brady - All the Patriots do as of late is throw. Especially in the red zone. You better snatch up a tight end too if you grab Brady this early

Round 2

Drew Brees - The Saints will be playing from behind without a few key defensive players early. Expect Brees to be throwing early and often.

Cam Newton - Cam is this high because of his ability to run and pass of touchdowns. I expect more of the same from him this season.

Michael Vick - Same as Cam Newton. I put Cam higher because Vick doesn't have to be the go to player in the red zone any more with the emergence of Shady McCoy.

Round 3

Matthew Stafford - Stafford could easily be placed in the second round too. If he stays healthy I suspect he will lead the NFL in passing yards this year with the talent the Lions have at receiver.

Peyton Manning - New location, same problem, Manning will be the focal point of the offense and expected to do big things for his team.

Eli Manning - Eli is steady he gets it done most of the year. Dispite starting slow most years, he's a reliable quarterback the second half of the year when the games mean the most.

Tony Romo - Romo is steady Eddie. He just needs his weapons to stay on the field. Honestly getting him this low is a steal.

Round 4

Philip Rivers - This may seem kind of low for Rivers but for the most part you shouldn't be thinking quarterback before round four unless you are considering other options. Rivers should bounce back from a dismal 2011 but his weapons of chioce will not be as potent.

Ben Roethlisburger - Big Ben will have to throw more due to lack of running game and a pass happy offensive coordinator. He is still a health risk but in round 4 you can't go wrong with Big Ben.

Andy Dalton - Dalton and A.J. Green may become the most feared passing duo in the league by the end of this year.

Matt Ryan - The only reason he is this high is that no one can mess up what he has in Jones and White. He should be steady and should put up big numbers again this year.

Josh Freeman - If he reaches his potential could Freeman could very well be the best of the bunch in this round.

Joe Flacco - Biggest arm in the league with tons of weapons around him.. He's consistent but you could land him later as he's not a fan favorite

Jay Cutler - Bringing Brandon Marshall back to town will only cement Cutlers ability to get it done this year.

Round 5

Robert Griffin III - Seems low but he would be a steal at this point. For all those guys grabbing up the usual suspects getting your backfield and receiver core straight and getting a guy like RGIII this late makes perfect sense to me.

Matt Shaub - If it wasn't for injuries he would be much higher on the list. However he stays injured and that offensive line is built for the run.

Andrew Luck - If he can stay healthy he will be feast or famine most games. Expect a lot of ups and downs from the top pick.

Matt Flynn - Not really sold on the one game wonder but he does warrant a risk if others are off the board. Grab him in the 5th if he's available.

The Best of the Rest

David Garrard

Matt Cassell

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Kevin Kolb

Carson Palmer

Mark Sanchez

Pick wisely and remember value late is better than jumping the gun... Stay Breey ~ I'm Out!
