If you are a NBA enthusiast you are elated about the finals this year. I don't even have a team in this fight and I am elated with the caliber of play that I have witnessed in this years NBA finals. None of the games have been disappointing and every time it looks like a team is down and out, they find a way to make it interesting before the game is over.
A few things stand out to me since the beginning of the finals. First Lebron James is the best player on the planet, but not by as large a margin as I once thought. Kevin Durant has closed that gap, and like Kenny Smith predicted, Durant may close pass him in a couple of years. Lebron has improved his game by adding a low post game which helps tremendously when he is struggling with his outside shot.
Secondly Kevin Durant is as good as if not better than most. KD is a monster on the box. He has a jumpshot that is lethal, and a first step that is a problem. Honestly his offensive repertoire is as good as it gets in the league. The only person with an offensive game in the same stratosphere as Durant is Carmelo Anthony.
Another thing that jumps out to me is the fact that Russell Westbrook is an under the radar talent. He takes a lot of flack for his shot selection and playing out of control sometimes but in reality he is the cog in the engine that makes this OKC team go. Folks can hate on Russie all they want but he is a top 15 player and possibly the most explosive player in the entire NBA.
The biggest thing that jumps out to me is that Dwyane Wade is starting the downside of his career. Yeah he can peak at times but he is a mess on both ends of the floor. He misses tons of shots to get to his average, he can't guard the faster players anymore. Even when they put him on Durant, he gets blown by, or Durant just shoots over him and then looks at him and tells him that he is too small. Wade is definitely not what he used to be. I would even argue that his window as an elite player is shutting fast.
Finally James Harden is a star. Make no mistake about it Harden is as good as it gets as a combination wing player and distributor. If Michael Jordan has any sense at all, Harden would become the center piece to the Bobcats attack. Then I would free up some more cash and go out and get a free agent or two to play with Harden. He's better than anything coming out of this years draft and he's only 22 years old.
That's my take on the Finals thus far.... Stay Breezy ~ I'm Out!
