Is Damon Harge The Future Of Hoops

The Bull City inbox has been blowing up lately about this 6th grade kid who is supposed to be the second coming of *insert player here*… In fact Damon Harge is so good he already competes at the high school level. Harge has been labeled by many as the future of basketball.

He is the #1-ranked player in the Class of 2018, currently playing JV & Varsity for Christian Faith Academy just outside Durham, North Carolina. This kid has the gift and even though he is smaller than most of his competition, he surely stands taller than most of them with talent.

Of course I didn’t get to see him play for his school team this season because I was working doing play by play for North Carolina Central University. However I did get a chance to see him play AAU basketball for his Kappa Magic team at the Garner Road tournament a month ago.

The kid was shockingly quick and reminded me of a young John Wall. He is more polished as a shooter but his ball handling skills are what sets him apart from the players he is playing against. Ironically enough he is under the tutelage of legendary prep coach Kendrick Williams (John Wall's old coach) at Christian Faith Center and he is excelling in many ways.

As he grows things will get more interesting because his shot seems to be a little flat and his release is a little awkward. However, if he grows more that shouldn’t be a problem as he will have more strength to get that shot off with less effort.

The kid often plays against better competition. I remember seeing Rodger Bohn, HS Director of SLAM Magazine, talking about Harge on twitter. He tweeted that Damon was the best player on the floor playing alongside two future ACC stars.
