Calipari To The Knicks, I Think Not!

According to a source of the New York Post, Owner James Dolan of the New York Knicks may have eyes on John Calipari to coach and run the front office. The rumor states that unless the New York Knicks make a run deep into the playoffs, that Mike Woodson would not be the guy and that the Knicks are prepared to make Calipari a very wealthy head coach.
Maybe I missed something but what has Calipari won? He didn’t win at UMass. He didn’t win in Memphis. He is currently the coach of the University of Kentucky and recently won one title. Year after year he appears to have the best talent in the country but he rarely capitalizes on the wealth of talent.
Let's not forget that Calipari already coached in the NBA from 1996 to 2000, first as head coach of the New Jersey Nets and then as an assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers. His Nets went 72-112.
I am not really sure why the Knicks are so interested in making him the front guy. Maybe these rumors are all wrong but this one clearly has me shaking my head. Mike Woodson had been more than admirable taking over a team that is short handed and winning games. He has helped Carmelo recapture the love of the fans, and has continued to win games despite injuries to Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin.
Maybe this rumor mill is a heat check to see how the fans feel about Calipari. He is definitely a masterful recruiter of talent. He also has had some guys who have had success and it has carried over into the NBA. He does recognize talent and he is a pretty good defensive coach. However, if the Knicks are ready to make a real run at a new coach I say Woodson is a keeper. The Atlanta Hawks probably wish they would have kept him now.
