Coming into this season no one including myself thought that the Irish would be contenders. The Irish quite frankly don't have the personnel that their head coach and offensive coordinator would adequately utilize. Brian Kelly is notorious for spreading teams out and picking them apart with a potent passing attack. However this years team is a ground and pound team with a stellar tight end and a ferocious defense to boot.
The Irish have been as impressive as anyone in the country. On the contrary, the Oklahoma Sooners have been era tic. Oklahoma looks like they could beat anyone one week and the next week they look like they have never had a practice together before a game.
If anyone needs a signature win this week it's Bob Stoops. Stoops was once the big game master when he first came to Norman. He took control of the game with a short passing game and a stellar running game that was complimented with some of the best defensive football that I have ever witnessed. Now things aren't as rosey for the Sooners. They have a quarterback that has all the tools but somehow gets missing on the big stage.
Notre Dame has been treated as the step-child for the last decade and now they are sniffing relevance once again. If they can pull this one off, it will be a signature victory to propel the team back to being relevant once again. If not, they better keep it close and respectable or they will face scrutiny as big game choke artists.
I really like the Sooners in this one if they bring what they brought to the table against the Long Horns. The running attack and stellar defense was an extremely awesome display and if they can repeat it, I think the Sooners will be putting themselves in a good position for a chance at getting back in the title hunt with a little help.
