If The Cowboys Lose To The Giants...

If the Dallas Cowboys lose on Sunday to the New York Giants, they will lose another opportunity to be named NFC East Champs, as well as miss the playoffs and endure another terrible December. I honestly like the Cowboys chances of winning on Sunday in New York, but if they don’t win, changes have to be made. Here are my changes should they lose and even if they win and go deep in the playoffs, they will still need to make a few changes. These changes are not in any order but all have importance.

1. Terrence Newman has got to go. He has been a very good Dallas Cowboy, but his time is up as his age has caught up with him. Mike Jenkins, who starts on the opposite side is on thin ice with his up and down play and he seems to be always banged up. The Cowboys draft should focus on the defensive secondary.

2. Tyron Smith needs to be the starting left tackle. Doug Free was much better on the right side when he replaced Marc Columbo a few years ago during the Cowboys playoff run. Smith is by far the best offensive lineman and he is just a rookie. Plus by moving him to the left, he can go against Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who is a monster that Free cannot handle.

3. Pass rushers are needed. Anthony Spencer, who is the starting outside linebacker opposite Demarcus Ware is a solid player. The problem is he has to be more than solid for the Cowboys to have an elite defense. The Cowboys need to decide on keeping Spencer, or getting another outside linebacker who can rush the passer better the Spencer. The Cowboys could also could try to add a stud defensive tackle who requires a double team to free up players like Jay Ratliff and Sean Lee.

4. Norv Turner come home. Norv Turner who once the Cowboys offensive coordinator, is likely to be fired as head coach of the San Diego Chargers and a spot on Cowboys coaching staff is needed. Turner could be the quarterback coach as well as another set of eyes to Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who Turner coached in the 90?s. If the Cowboys do hire Turner, it will be interesting if Garrett will let Turner do the play calling.

5. Draft Defensively. This upcoming draft should be defensive. In fact, It wouldn’t surprise me if the Cowboys use all of their picks on defense. the secondary needs help. Pass rusher are needed badly. Bradie James and Keith Brooking who share the other inside linebacker spot next to Sean Lee will likely be gone next season, so another inside linebacker is needed. If the Cowboys do draft an offensive player, it will be an offensive lineman or tight end.
