The Five Best Players In The NBA Today

With the lockout going strong, it made me wonder if the NBA were to have to play games with the owners and coaches in their current state, who would be the five best players. Technically they are the only real players left in the NBA so it is the only time they may be arguably the league's best. I know you think this is a stretch and it is, but since last nights Monday night football game was one of the worst I have watched in some time, I figured we could all use some intrigue and comedy to our day today.

5. Patrick Ewing

Every good team needs a big man. The only big man that comes to mind that might still be able to make it up and down the floor right now is Patrick Ewing. I doubt Pat has a lot of post up left in his body, but he can still fill it up on the baseline if he needs too.

4. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson

Bird will give this unit a great threat from the outside as he probably still can fill it up from anywhere around the arc. Great shooters will always be great shooters and if Bird can find a way to get his geriatric self open, he can be big for this squad.

Since Bird will not be able to go hard though at his age it is only fair that Magic be prepared to play some minutes for him as well. They have been joined at the hip since college, no need to change things now.

3. Michael Jordan

Never thought I would see Jordan this low on any list but it has happened. Mike has aged to the point of irrelevance but his competitive spirit would make him top five on this or any list. Mike still has the hops as he demonstrates above but his ability to defend might have slipped. Plus until he loses the Hitler mustache, I just can’t rank him any higher.

2. Sam Cassell

Sam is still in the NBA mindset and would be virtually unstoppable on any level right now. He has now been guiding the Wizards guards and trying to turn them into great floor leaders like he was. Sam could probably dress out now and still get you 10 and 10 in the NBA.

1. Stan Van Gundy

Was there ever any doubt over who would be number one on this list? Who is going to check Stan? Look at these handles:

So until the real ballers get back, this five should take on any five in the world but the court better be shortened and there better be plenty of time outs for them to use.  I would pay to see this once. Would you?

I would put Hakeem over Ewing. The Dream still has some of the greatest post moves of all-time.

@Blue Devil - I would have but does Hakeem work for anyone in the NBA?? The list was players, coaches, front office people, and owners.
