Why Doesn't Anyone Want Me?

I am incredibly fast for a 35 year old man. I am in the best shape of my life. I run everyday and no one works as hard as I do on or off the field. Sure controversy follows me but I can play. I made an average quarterback like Trent Edwards look good last year. I’ve proven myself year in and year out but for some reason no body wants me.

Terrell Owens is an explosive receiver. No doubt he is still skill wise a top 15 wide receiver in the NFL. Yet he still has no home. I for one don’t really understand why no team is willing to sign Owens but in a league with a ton of mediocre starters at the wide receiver position it just doesn’t make a lot of sense that Owens remains unsigned.

I am going to throw my biases out because Moss and Owens have been my two favorite wide receivers the past decade. To me Moss and Owens are the benchmark at wide receiver for the new generation. They both are explosive but they do it in different ways. Moss will make you miss then blow by you. Owens will run through you then by you. Moss has the better hands but Owens runs the better routes.

I have always wanted to see those two on the same team for just one year to see how they could compliment each other. I know this is highly unlikely but it would be a nice thing to see. Can you imagine how good your corner backs can be if they had to check these greats on a daily basis?

Everyday as I watch sports network television you can feel the tension as every team is marked off the list for Owens. Eventually someone is going to want Owens services. Teams are afraid of the media that is going to follow Owens into camp. When he misses a practice it’s going to be on SportsCenter. If he passes gas, Ed Werder will be there to report it.

Honestly I can understand that he is labeled a bad guy. I mean he did throw Jeff Garcia under the bus when he didn’t help him fight to get more money in San Francisco. He also turned a cold shoulder on Donovan McNabb when Donovan wouldn’t help him get top 5 wide receiver money as a member of the Eagles. He never turned on Tony Romo but I guess Jason Garrett couldn’t take the criticism of his inability to get the ball to the wealth of wide receivers that the Cowboys had. He didn’t have to throw Trent Edwards under the bus, because Trent was awful anyways. This being said, Owens has not once been in trouble with the law, nor has he been accused of drug usage, or even domestic problems.

People can say what they want about Terrell Owens but he produces. He draws a double team all game. Teams that don’t double team him get punished. Yeah he averages about 6 - 7 drops a year but that is understandable. I understand that the game does pass most of us by, but its sad when someone takes the game away because they don’t like who you are.

I remember a few years ago when Tom Jackson came out on ESPN and said, “I would rather have people on my team with the character of Marvin Harrison than to have characters like Terrell Owens on my team.” Well since Marvin Harrison has shown us that he was in character on the field, because off the field he has a world of problems.

I will be the first to say that I haven't always agreed with statements that the man has made off the field but to his defense, more times than not, he got baited like a 20 pound bass on the outdoor sports network. Maybe if he would have surrounded himself with more people who had his best interest in mind and weren't willing to let him dictate to them what good public relations are we would be able to accept his greatness as a top 5 wide receiver in the past 20 years.

TO gets a bad rap because he is misunderstood and his quality of education is somewhat poor. He needed some public relations training and he would have been fine.

Ed Werder personally led to the demise of Terrell Owens in Dallas.

Well I am sure once people start going down he will land a job.

TO gets a bad rap but he brings a lot of it on himself. Still he can play. I am sure he will find a team.

I agree wholeheartedly with your entire article. If I was Terrell I wouldn't fret about signing with a team. Allow training camp to pass, even the season to began because we all know, an injury to two is plausible and a team will come knocking. That's when they'll remember how great a PLAYER T.O. is and how they HATE, Drew Rosenhaus. I'm a fan of the Bills, I wish we could have found a way to keep him.

He's washed up. He's nothing but a distraction. Send him to the Raiders
